College Showers? what are the showers like at your college? |
At the university that I attend, it varies a lot depending on where you dorm. Some of them are realllly clean, and some of them are just filthy.
My freshman year, some of my friends who lived on the same hall as me just watched Saw, the movie, and couldn't go to the bathroom for a while because the bathrooms of that dorm scarily resembled the one in saw. However, second semester I was pretty much living in another friend's room with her roommate. The closest bathroom there I was fine walking in with just socks.
Likewise, the same friend's bathroom this year I can walk in with just socks and feel fine (and don't mind touching the walls). The new ones I have are an improvement from last year's, but still not as good as my friend's.
And then there are the suites where you, your roommate(s), and suitemate(s) have to clean the bathroom yourselves. You'll have a good idea of how clean it is. For most guys, it's not good at all. One thing to remember no matter how clean the bathroom is - shower slippers. They are essential!
Oh one more thing, I visited my sister and at her university the bathroom was reallly clean. I wouldn't have minded going in there barefoot at all. |
How do you deal with College Showers? I'm a guy who is about to go to college and is scared to death about taking showers in the nude in front of other guys. I know it is a public shower and I would look like a guy if I wore any kind of clothes in the shower (except for flip-flops ^^) What can you do for the embarrassment?
And to whom won't be embarrassed to answer, what do you do about having...smaller parts than others....?
I would apreciate any advice for a newbie going off into the world of chaos that is college. |
At my university, the dorm showers are co-ed, which means they are in cubicles sealed floor to ceiling. Some rooms have private baths, though they cost more. Most schools also have apartment-style residence too.
Schools have to accommodate people with various physical disabilities, from various cultures and religious backgrounds from all over the world, and lots of people are uncomfortable showering in public. If there is more than one dorm to choose from on your campus, pick the newer one since it is more likely to have more modern bathroom facilities. Ask the Res office about the common shower, don't be shy.
At the gym it is a different matter.
As a woman, I don't feel qualified to comment on your other point... sorry! :)
Good luck! |
How do college showers work? As a girl, I'm self-conscience about my body and there is no way I am showering with a bunch of other girls looking at me. How do college showers work? Like if I'm in a dorm with a bathroom on each floor |
It's different in different schools and in different dorms, but communal showers are virtually unheard of in the last few decades. Most of the time, though, there are at least private stalls with either a curtain or a door.
Just to warn you, sometimes there are coed bathrooms, in which case there are always private stalls of course, and always with sufficient cover.
It's not unusual to be self-conscious at first, sharing a bathroom with so many other people. Usually, people will walk to and from their rooms in towels or robes. You get used to it after a while. Most schools will honor a request for single sex accommodations if possible, either a girl's only dorm, a girl's only floor, or at least a girl's only corridor. More girls request such accomodations than guys, so to be sure you get your needs met, you should make the request as early as possible (if you're starting college next week, it's a bit late, if you're starting college next year, you should check out the dorms while you're visiting schools and ask about this kind of stuff to make sure you're going someplace you'll be comfortable).
And enjoy college, it's the best time of your life. |
Why do all the showers I use at home suck compared to college? All the showers at college were so nice with the high pressure and could actually get clean. I now realize after being home that the ones here have barely any pressure at all and barely get shampoo out. Is there any way to fix this?? I've changed the shower head and it still sucks just as much. |
Houses on wells have pressure regulators which can be adjusted (typically). As already noted, you need to ensure you don't raise the water pressure too high, and that you maintain about a 20 psi difference between the cut out and the cut in pressure for the well pump.
You can install the same equipment on city water, if you first bring the water line from the meter through a double check valve back flow preventer, then through a pump (controlled by the high / low pressure pressure switch) and into a hydrostatic tank which then feeds the house. Work this extensive will be a bit pricey and will require a permit - but you'll be able to dial in the pressure you want! |
How do showers in college work? I have college orientation tomorrow and expect to shower but I don't know how it works. Are the showers completely private? Once I finish my shower can I change in a completely private area or is everything public? Any and all help is appreciated. |
| just don't drop the soap!! |
What do you do when walking to the college dorm showers? when you're walking to the shower area in your college dorm, do most people just walk in there naked? or do they wear their clothes down and then take them off there? or wear a dry towel? what about going back? |
| Towel around the waist is best |
How to deal with first year college life; communal showers? My entire life I have been living at home. Next year I am going to college.
The dorm I will be living in has a communal bathroom with several showers in it.
How would I go about showering in a shared space? After I shower I usually use a hairdryer, acne cream, and other things that I might not have personal space for.
How do I adapt to communal showers? |
Wear flip flops.
Invest in a bathrobe.
Buy a shower caddy.
As for the hairdryer and such, you could possibly do that stuff in your actual room. You will probably have to buy a mirror for your room. If you do need the bathroom, just make multiple trips. Take your shower, go to your room, grab your hairdryer and go back to the bathroom. |

pajamas. always go in at least pajamas, and a robe too if your uncomfortable walking around in your pajamas.
they have hooks right outside each shower stall so you will be able to hang your things (this is true at every college i have ever been to or visited)
carry all your tolietries in a small shower safe caddy because you can hang it or set it on a bench in the shower itself (or even just on the ground)
bring water safe flip flops. this is just for hygiene. you never quite know who did what on that floor or the last time it got cleaned.
but yeah, seriously, always wear at least pajamas. my friend used to go in just a robe, but one time she was in there and the fire alarm went off and she didnt have time to go back to her dorm and put clothes on, so she was outside, in winter, in wisconsin, in a bath robe. after that day, she always wore pajamas, and a robe |
College ladies, how do you manage to shave you legs in the dorm showers? I am a college freshmen and just started my first semester and I am a guy who shaves his legs. In my dorm we have a community shower. I find it tough to maneuver enough to avoid the water from rinsing off the shaving gel before I get a chance to shave them. I am used to shaving them at home in the bath tub but I struggle to much shaving them in the shower at college. Can you give me tips on how you do it in your dorm? |
| best way to shave your legs! get a huge cup of water(to rinse off the razor), a towel(to sit on), shaving cream, and a razor. Put some short shorts on and just do it in the dorm. Then rinse off in the shower! This works better than even doing it int he shower because you never miss a spot and your skin doesn't get all wrinkly from being in there too long!! |
How do people get to and from community showers in college? I start college in a few weeks and I'm wondering if people bring clothes and change before and after showering, if they just wear a robe and change in their rooms, or if only a towel is acceptable. Please help? |
For showering in communal Dorms:
Towel
Houserobe
slippers
Shower caddy ( full of soap, shower cloth, hair products, etc).
Undergarments
optional:
Shower Cap
Bag for extra clothing.
1. Always wear shower slippers in shower stall. This is to protect your feet from fungi.
2. Undress, Hanging your clothing on the hanger provided or over the shower rail.
3. Bathe, making sure to get behind your ears!
4. Once finished, dry self off with towel and put on undergarments and/or women's sanitary products.
5. Once dry, put on houserobe.
6. Check behind for any items and to leave an acceptable showerstall for others.Collect in shower bag
7. Walk down to room and commense putting on other clothing.
Some ppl decide to undress, shower and redress completely in the shower stall. Some decide to brush thier teeth inside too. THis is acceptable if your roommate is in the room or you simply do not feel comfortable changing in public. |
