| 8-year-old boy wetting his pants? Hello, My 8-year-old BOY has pee accidents a few times every day. It's not much, but it's enough to sometimes make a wet spot on his pants. I've taken him to the doc, but she didn't consider this this to be something serious. I'm hoping that he will outgrow this, but what really worries me is that all the other similar cases I know of are with GIRLS. Does anyone else know of boys having this problem? Are there any ways that I can help my son and speed up his "cure"? Or maybe a way to minimize his accidents? Thank you! |
| well, concerned mom, don't be concerned about trying to "speed up his cure" or to minimize his accidents...please let it run its course. There's no way to fix this. He'll grow out of it. If the doctor didn't seem concerned, she's probably right. |

Has accidents, both pee and poop, 4 to times a week during the day. He wears a pull-up because or else he will wet the bed. We have improved his diet, including only drinking water. | For daytime they make these watches that he can't tamper with that remind him to use the bathroom. For night time I think Pull-ups or Goodnites are fine because there are a lot of guys his age that wet the bed. I would still talk to his doctor for both issues. |

| My son is the same way. He gets so caught up in whatever he's doing that he waits till the last possible second to run to the bathroom ~ and sometimes he just doesn't make it. Punishing will not work. The only thing you can do is remind him to go as soon as he feels he needs to. When he's playing or doing whatever it is that distracts him, get his attention and ask if he needs to go. This will reinforce what you want him to do instead of making him afraid of having an accident. Also ~ I'll probably get flamed for this one ~ I would suggest having him tested for an attention disorder. My son has ADHD, and it's fairly typical for guys with ADD or ADHD to have problems like this. It's an impulse control issue ~ they just can't stop what it is they want to do in order to do the things they need to do. ~~~EDIT~~~ I am appalled at some people suggesting that you put him in a diaper. Humiliation will do nothing except reduce his confidence. What a horrible thing to do to a guy who obviously already has some issues. |

I was driving my son home from soccer and squirmed around in the seat and asked to go to the bathroom. I told him he shouldn't have drank so much gatorade and to wait. | I disagree with punishment on this. Consider this from his perspective: He told you he had to go and was squirming to prove is desperation. Then you refused to help him, and what he was afraid of happening, he ended up doing. Kids don't pee on themselves if they can help it. Who would? Sometimes you just can't hold it. Weren't you ever a boy? Haven't you ever had to go real bad when you were little? Kids look to their parents for understanding when situations like these come up.Your boy was looking to you, an understanding fellow male, for relief and you let him down. | First thing to do is take to the doctor to see if anything wrong. Second, for nite-time wettings, he needs to wear diapers. No shame in wearing diapers if he can't keep dry. Third, he needs to be aware of when he has to go during the day because he should have control over that. If not, the doctor can tell you what is wrong. But for sure, diapers at night. |
